Community Nursing Services

District Nurses

The professional Lead Nurse for the area is Trudy Reynolds. The senior nurse for Davenport House Surgery is currently led by Angela Price. She works as part of a team of nurses that cover Harpenden & St. Albans. They visit patients who need dressings and nursing care in their homes.

Patients or their carers can contact the district nurses directly on 01582 760196.

There is now a direct telephone number that patients or their carers can contact 24 hours a day for nursing help.

This is for patients with chronic nursing requirements already known to the district Nursing care team and who now require urgent nursing care or support during the day or night.

Health Visitors

The Health Visitors are based at the Grove Clinic in the grounds of the Grove Schools in Southdown. They are available for consultation and advice either personally or by telephoning between 8.30am & 10.00am on 01582 715675. Although they work as a team, June Dunn is the nominated Health Visitor for this surgery and enquiries should be directed to her in the first instance.

All children under five are allocated a Health visitor once born or shortly after moving into the area. The Health Visitor is responsible for contacting you after the birth of your child and for arranging child health assessments and giving advice during the pre-school years.

You may wish to meet your Health Visitor before having your baby or after moving to Harpenden and to do so please contact their telephone number as above.

Midwifery Services

Community Midwives from both West Herts Trust  & Luton & Dunstable Trust hold antenatal clinics in the surgery on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Appointments can be made via reception.

If you wish to contact your midwife please call 01923 217361 for West Herts and 07769 925348 for Luton and Dunstable.

The surgery has a 'maternity pack' or folder available for all newly-pregnant women. The pack explains tests that are available and facilities offered by all the local hospitals. You will be given the pack by your doctor once your pregnancy is confirmed.

The Local National Childbirth Trust also provides Antenatal Class bookings and advice on breast feeding. They can be contacted on 0844 2436 153 or via e mail: bookings5k@nct.org.uk.
