Our Practice
Davenport House Surgery is a well-established general practice in the heart of Harpenden town centre, serving a population of nearly 13,000 patients.
Founded in 1918 by Dr Edward Charles Davenport, the practice has a long tradition of providing high-quality, patient-centred care to the local community.
Today, we continue to build on this heritage by combining traditional values with modern healthcare services.
We are proud to be rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

🤝 Working together for your care
As part of the Harpenden Primary Care Network, we work closely with other local practices.
- You may be offered appointments with specialist clinicians such as pharmacists, physiotherapists, or mental health practitioners
- We provide extended hours appointments across the local area
- This allows us to offer a wider range of services and improve access to care
🏡 Community support
We work closely with local community pharmacy teams.
- For minor illnesses or medication queries, you may be referred directly to a pharmacist
- This allows you to receive advice and treatment more quickly without needing a GP appointment
📲 Accessing care
We use modern tools such as Accurx to help patients contact the practice online.
- There are several ways to access care depending on urgency
- We offer both telephone and face-to-face appointments
- Wherever possible, patients are given a choice of how they are seen
