About Davenport House Surgery

Our Practice

Davenport House Surgery is a well-established general practice in the heart of Harpenden town centre, serving a population of nearly 13,000 patients.

Founded in 1918 by Edward Charles Davenport, the practice has a long tradition of providing high-quality, patient-centred care to the local community.

Today, we continue to build on this heritage by combining traditional values with modern healthcare services.

We are proud to be rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our Mission

Our aim is simple: to provide safe, high-quality, and compassionate care for every patient.

We strive to:

  • Treat every patient with dignity and respect
  • Provide timely access to the right care
  • Support patients in managing their own health and wellbeing
  • Continuously improve the services we offer

Putting Patients First

We understand that contacting your GP can sometimes feel difficult—our team is here to make it as easy as possible.

With patients’ needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to help you quickly access the information and services you need.

Our Team

Our clinical team includes 3 GP partners and 4 associate GPs, supported by a skilled wider team of nurses, healthcare assistants, and additional healthcare professionals.

As a training practice, we are proud to support the development of future GPs and healthcare staff, helping to shape the future of the NHS.

Our reception team are the first point of contact for all patients. They are highly trained, dedicated professionals who will always do their very best to help you access the right care as quickly as possible.

You may be asked a few questions when you contact us—this helps us ensure you are directed to the most appropriate member of the team.

Working Together for Your Care

As part of the Harpenden Primary Care Network, we work closely with other local practices to provide a wider range of services.

Through this collaboration, you may be offered appointments with specialist clinicians such as pharmacists, physiotherapists, or mental health practitioners where appropriate.

We also offer extended hours appointments in partnership with the PCN, helping to improve access to care outside of core practice hours.

Community Support

We work closely with local community pharmacy teams. For minor illnesses or medication queries, you may be referred directly to a pharmacist, allowing you to receive advice and treatment more quickly.

Accessing Care

We use modern tools such as Accurx to help patients contact the practice online and access care efficiently.

There are several ways to access care depending on the urgency of your needs.

We offer both telephone and face-to-face appointments, and wherever possible, patients are given a choice of how they are seen.

Please see our Appointments page for full details on how to book.
